Iraqi Media Security Group(I.M.S.G)
We are a group representing Iraqi media, Iraqi Journalist Syndicate and Iraqi Kurdish Journalist Syndicate met in Arbil in May 2007, responding to an initiative by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), to discuss how to develop practical actions to improve security of Iraqi journalists.
The door is open to join Iraqi Media Safety Group ( IMSG) membership and activities for all Iraqi media organizations; satellite television stations, newspapers, private and public media who accept aims and goals of the Group.
Group's aims:
1. To guarantee the participation of Iraqi media organizations in activities, actions and to have its inputs toward adopting a strategy that diminishing the lethal targeting of journalists.
2. To observe and enlist all threats and risks that facing Iraqi journalists.
3. To coordinate constantly with executive, legislative and legal bodies in all matters related to journalists' safety.
4. To help media community in developing its security measures to save its staff.
5. To collect and distribute all kind of information that help journalists in saving their lives and minimizing the deadly risks facing them.
6. To provide advices that would help journalists improving their security and safety in the way to/from work and when they are on assignment.
7. To evaluate the threats facing journalists and provide all possiple support.
8. To develop training programs to assist them in handling threats.
9. To coordinate and distribute alerts, breaking news and electronic bulletins covering issues related to the safety of journalists.
10. To provide journalists with the latest security alerts that would help them in their work.
