IMSG Calls Not To Arrest Iraqi Journalists Without Concrete Evidence

Baghdad,30/3/2009: Iraqi Media Safety Group praises all efforts lead to release director manager of “Al-Itijah “ TVS. station Basem Muhemed Al-Majedi and his TV. Station manager Hussein Hedid Al-Saadi, esp. the efforts of Iraqi journalists syndicate Moaid Al-Lami who made urgent contacts with many Iraqi concerned officials, led to release the two journalists within 24 hours.
The 2 journalists were arrested by American force breaking their homes in the night of Saturday 28 of March and were beaten by the Americans.
IMSG considers the American behavior un reasonable and breaking all law and forms of treating journalists in a democratic country, therefor calling not to arrest any journalist without court order taken after discussing the case with Iraqi journalists syndicate representative, to decide if there is concrete prove justifying the order of arrest.
This kind of attacking journalists’ houses and arresting them considered by IMSG a very bad example of depressing force against media freedom which does not help to deepen the bases of free society.
