Baghdad, 13 Jan.008: Iraqi Media Safety Group (IMSG) praised the efforts of Babel governor to release two journalists were captured by the police of his officers north Alhela city before three days.
Welaa' Shaker Alsefar one of the arrested journalists said: " We were on our way, with my colleague the photographer Setar Alshumery, to cover a religious activity in Alkefel city, when an officer ordered us not to enter the city, and we were surprised that he ordered his police staff to arrest us and to handcuff our hands in chains."
Alsefar added:" The officer, who was in high rank (lieutenant colonel) calls us a lot of bad names, in addition to describe us terrorists."
When the governor of Babel intervened to release after he heard the incident, this officer insisted that we are facing the accusation of "preparing terrorist activities". The other police officers begged us to ask the pardon of the lieutenant colonel to get ourselves released.
Taleb Teysir Alasedi the director of the electronic site Non, in which the two journalists working, asked from his side the Iraqi prime minister Mr. Jewad Almaleky to order investigation in the incident and punish police officers who abused and bothered the two journalists.
IMSG to signal with concern that many of security authorities, esp. police officers, do not consider in their daily activities the constitutional rights of journalists to perform their duties to inform Iraqi people about what is going in their country, in addition they do not obey the clear directions of the premier Almaleky to respect journalists and guarantee their safety.
IMSG express that the kidnapping of the British journalist and his interpreter in Basra and their release today, besides the incident of Babel Governorate will lead to clear measures to multiply all possible arrangements for the safety and freedom of journalists in their daily work.
